The Pacific Art Festival London 2021

Festival

The Pacific Art Festival London 2021 was a three-week celebration held from 9-30 October 2021 at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London’s Trafalgar Square. Organized by Pacific Island Artists Connection, the festival highlighted the rich cultural heritage and contemporary art of the Pacific region, with a focus on the impacts of climate change ahead of COP26. It brought together artists and communities from Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea, including those within the UK’s Pacific diaspora.

Curated by Sulu Daunivalu, the festival featured an art exhibition showcasing both heritage and contemporary works, many available for purchase to support Pacific communities impacted by COVID-19. Events included panel discussions on Pacific culture, arts, and climate change, alongside interactive activities. A highlight was a performance by VOU Fiji, which debuted an updated piece, “Are We Stronger Than Winston?”, exploring themes of resilience and climate action.

The festival aimed to connect the Pacific’s vibrant culture with global audiences, emphasizing the importance of climate justice for island nations.
